THURSDAY
We started cleaning at Sehoale where Etean suggested that we should go and clean,paint and align cabbles and wires at the main DB supplying Sehoale.

FRIDAY
We managed to complete the painting for the previous day.Earlier on we were told to do the light wiring for the machenical workshop.All the task performed was done under the supervision of Heino and Etean.During the tasks done,I have learned that through hard work success is ahead of you.

29 to 30/09/2009

On the 29th of September 2009 we went to Mr Van Ransberg's house as we were told to go and fix his roofing.During the process of our work, we concluded by doing maintenance around the house.The task was done along with Mr Lebese where I have learned that everywhere you go proper maintenance should be done at all times

Today the 30th we went to Sehoale to dig up a trench because a live cable was lying around which was a hazard to the community.I have learned that in every environment everyone should take safety into consideration

Rewiring :25/09/2009

It was Friday morning where we were told to go and rewire the infra red light at wild life centre clinic.Before performing the given task,we had to do proper planning ensuring that we have all the required materials.We did the measurement on how the trunking should be mounted according to our planning.The task given to us was done under the supervision of Etean.In conclusion I have leaned that through planning,dedication and team work we can achieve better.

Designing:18/09/2009

Today we started by looking for the old iron sheet in our scrap yard.Our purpose was to use them to design the stand for posters.The job was not easy because we had to do the grinding,cutting,measuring and the welding.In conclusion I have learned that through multi- skills,you can save a lot by doing things from old materials.

Wiring:15/09/2009

It was tuesday morning,we left to town where we mounted the skirtins to pull wires through it and installed red plugs.Our task was easier because Etean who was our manager for the day did the planning before we could perform the task at hand.After job completion I have learned that through communication,undrstanding and planning we can make the dufficult tasks simpler.

Wednesday to friday

We started with our assessment on Wednesday.As we were told to prepare ourselves,it was easier for us because Mr R.S Hagemann did everything as planned.During the assessment I taught myself that without proper studying you wont make it through the assessment.I have learnt that through dedication and hard work the impossible becomes possible.

Manual: 24/08/2009-26/08/2009

Monday &Tuesday.

Monday we started with our new module known as Low voltage network cable assisted by Mr Louis.Since we got the manual monday morning,we had to make a study in order to learn what is expected from us.On tuesday we continuied with the manual trying to create questions for us to put in our POE.

Wednesday.
Today we gathered in our classroom to do the planning on what we are going to do for the day.We did the farm inspection which was more of a learning to our field of engineering.However it was a great experience, I have learned how to do an inspection and find faults using the regulations for instance to check if the circuit breaker correspond with the wires/cables.

Handyman course: 17/08/2009 - 21/08/2009

Monday &Tuesday.

We were introdued to our new facilitator and started with the Handyman course.The maintenance course was of a great experience and exposure because I have learned about the neccessity of safety involving plumbing,tubing,welding,painting,grinding and carpentry through the handyman manual under the supervision of Mr Gerhad.

Wednesday to Friday.

We went out to start with our practical since we were done with the manual.During our practical we did manage to design and build a trail for the welding machine and a bicycle stand.

Inspection:13/08/2009

We did inspection around Sondela Nature Reserve in the morning.During our inspection we came across faults were we had to fix them.Our last inspection for the day was done at Segwale where we had t o replace a burnt earth leakage by new one and I have learned how to trace faults using a multimeter.In conclusion we went to the computer class to update our blogs nor our typing skills.

Plumbing:05/08/2009

It was wednesday morning,we were introduced to do plumbing as part of our handyman course.Plumbing was of a great exposure under the supervision Mr Sekgaolelo.However it was great because we were taught how to intall a to serve as part of drainage system to the kitchen.Furthermore I have learned how to unblock a drain.

22/07/2009

Wednesday we went to Segwale to disconnect a hanging cable and place it underground.I have learned that safety in the electrical field is essential to our daily basis.

Today thursday morning we installed a telephone cable at Piccinini.We used conduit pipe as a wire way to protect the cable from obstacles such as water.We had to allign the cable on top of the roof using glue gun.
Later on before lunch time we went to Segwale to install a plug using a drill.I have learned that when working with power tools safety must be adhered.

Today we went to wild life centre to replace burnt light nor damaged sockets.It was a great exposure because I have learned how to do fault finding.We traced some wires inside the ceiling to search which wires supplies the outside light at wild life village under Mr Lebese's supervision.

A journey to Lethabo Power Station :16/07/2009

Thursday morning around 05:45 we gathered as a group waiting for our transport to take us to Lethabo Power Station.We departed from Bela-Bela township at around 06:40 under the supervision of Mr Lucas and Mr Reinecke.Before our arrival to Lethabo we had a long journey.

On our arrival Mr Daan le Roux gave us a great welcome introducing himself nor his colleaque for us to sattle.The journey was a of great exposure because it was totaly different compared to what I had in mind,in fact I thought power stations would consist of so many employee keeping busy at all times, but no only 2 people could managed it due to the control panel.Before our visit to the side we were asked questions based on electricity as a search to hear what we basically knowor do at Sondela.However how they did their questioning we answered as we were taught.Further more as we all know every premises compose of safety rule,Mr Daan le Roux showed us a DVD teaching us everything about their safety before site visit.
After learning their safety procedures,he gave us safety helmets and safety ear plugs made of speakers to hear him when talking to us on the mic.

Further more I have learned that Lethabo power station consist of 6 unit (turbine) in which each of them generate a maximum of 618MW everyday.I admired the fact that they use a separate power from a generator and supply everything they generate to the sub stations.

Installation of a telephone cable:14/07/2009

We started using the draw wire to pull the cable but it was difficult because the draw wire broke leaving the cable outside.We had to come up with a plan,we dug up a hole to detect the wire way for the in order for us to install a new draw wire to pull the cable.After digging a hole in a search of a wire way,we baricated the the environment for people's safety.

In the morning, the 15 of July 2009 we carried on with our task to install a telephone cable.During the day we gathered to our classroom to complete activity no:3 & 4 for the fundamentals under module no: 9010 & 9013.We also made the arrangement for our Thursday trip.

Maintenance:10/07/2009

Friday morning we were given an electrical task to perfom at Mr Van Ransberg's house.Since we wer busy doing maintenance,we found 3 spot light, 1 energy saver and a step down transformer (220v to 12v) burnt.We did manage to change them under supervision of Mr William Lebese.Before the task performance, We switched off the power supply as part of safety and did all the connection.

In the afternoon we went to the computer class to do a research concerning our module (9010 & 9013).Further more we updated our blog based on our daily jobs given to us.

Maintenance & Learning:09/07/2009

Today when doing maintenance around Sondela village (Segwale) we experiencedc a minor problem, a cable of power above our head supported by a tree which was supposed to be under ground.People from Segwale were very fortunate because we had to switch off power and bring down the cable,but before that we dug a trench for it.Finally we managed to put the cable under ground, connected it to the power supply and tested if it was working like we found it.

After our lunch time we went to our classroom to continue with the module U/S No:9010 & 9013.In this module we deal about measurements, angles and calculations.Calculations are sometimes a bit difficult to us ,but due to the help of our facilitator calculations seems to be easy and we do enjoy it.

Trench :07/07/2009

Tuesday morning we assemble in our classroom to sign the red book and submitted our job card.However we went to Segwale and continue to dig up a trench, ensuring that all the underlying cables are burried underground.Afterwards we went to our classroom to start with a new module.

Digging a trench:06/07/2009

On monday we went to Segwale to dig up a trench to put the cable underground because it was lying all over.Anyhow I did manage to learn that in life electricity can be dangerous if we tend to ignore safety procedures.

Friday early in the morning around 08:30 we went to Guest house to install socket outlet for towel heaters.Since the hall was sealed by tiles in the kitchen,we used a trunking as a wire way for the wire going to the plug.

Thursday, group leaders gathered again with our managers for job description.As a group we went to Sondela's guest house to install garden lights ccontrolled by a day-night-light switch.We also went to Wild Life Centre to install the infra red light to heat up the clinic for up growing animals nor old ones.After our lunch we went to the machenical workshop to install plugs on their own circuit.

Wednesday morning our group leaders gathered to meet with our managers to give us jobs for the day as part of our practical.Since our job for the day was to maintain the farm for any electrical faults nor replacing burnt lights.As a group we started doing inspection at Caravan Park Moselesele,Piccinini hall and Reception.On the same day we came across a minor fault ( burnt sport light we thought so).We managed to trace a new fault which was a burnt ballast,we replaced it along with its spot light bulbs.

Tuesday morning our assessors came to continue with our assessment and everything went well as planned.We managed to complete 3 modules bringing them to a total of 7 modules.

Monday morning Mr P. Nolte accompanied by Mr R .S Hagemann arrived in our classroom ready to assess us on 3 modules including a new one known as Construct Basic Electronic Circuit.Assessment went absolutely great except the Basic Electronic module which needs proper attention for re-assessment.

It was Thursday where our facilitator informed us that the date for assessment has been postponed to the 29 of June 2009.Ufortunately it was not easy for me because I could not make time to study.

On the 21 of J une 2009 I was restless studying for the coming assessment with our new assessor Mr P Nolte coming along with Mr R.S Hagemann.Unfortunaetely they could not come due to other prioprities,but what is good about it is that I tried to study some of the modules though it was not that simple.

Cable joint:19/06/2009

Friday morning around 10:30 am we cut off the cable supplying the pump motor because it was burnt out.We did managed to replace the damage one and join it using MX 2 but not connecting it to the motor due to the drying of the resin.

Presentations :18/06/2009

Thursday morning we did some touch ups in completion of activity 3 and preparations for our presentation.At around 09:30 our facilitator came marking the activity and giving us an equal opportunity to share everything we did research on.Further more we planned how our schedule is going to be next week Tuesday because during Mondays and Fridays we do practicals around Sondela(electrical maintenance).

Activities:17/06/2009

We did activity 3 as planned with our facilitator.We also agreed to do research using internet on the new given task concerning presentations on Thursday.

Electrical maintenance:12/06/2009

We replaced fuorescent tubes (75watts) and their ballast to make sure that they glow.During the maintenance process we also managed to create a new stand to mount an additional fluorescent light controlled by a single lever.

Assignment :11/06/2009

Wednesday morning I completed the given assignment based on the fundamentals.Later on before 12am i submitted it to Heidi our facilitator while doing research about our next activity.

Wiring

On the 10th of June 2009 I wired a sub DB and installed a fluorescent light together with an ordinary bio net fitting.Further more we continued to connect the double plugs.later on we connected the supply to our sub DB supplied from a transformer over a distance of approximately 1km.Since it was a long distance,we did some test (we plugged a grinder) to ensure that there was no drop in voltage and we were very fortunate because there was a slide volt drop (From 228v to 224v).Our mission was accomplished due to our great ideas.
